59 Days To Go!

For those coming from far and wide to Northumberland, and for anyone discovering this corner of the world for the very first time, here are a handful of our favourite things to do while you’re here, especially if you’re staying either side of the wedding. We hope you get to explore a little!

Soak Up the Coast

- Bamburgh Beach: this is a long, windswept stretch of golden sand with the backdrop of Bamburgh Castle. Perfect for a bracing morning walk or a swim if you’re feeling brave. Rumour has it that it has just been voted number one beach in the UK by TimeOut magazine.

- Boat Trip from Seahouses: hop on a boat from Seahouses out to the Farne Islands. You’ll get the chance to see puffins, seals, and if you’re very lucky, dolphins too. It’s a very special Northumberland experience.

- Dunstanburgh Castle: this is a gorgeous coastal walk that rewards you with the dramatic ruins of Dunstanburgh Castle as a backdrop! You can walk to or from Craster, and reward yourself with a drink or a bite at The Jolly Fisherman. Which leads us to...

Eat Well!

- Creel & Reel: this is an unassuming food trailer in the parking area between Bamburgh Castle and Seahouses and offers brilliant seafood lunch options. You MUST try their bacon and scallop sandwiches.

- The Ship Inn: is a great pub in Low Newton-by-the-Sea, with delicious crab sandwiches that are fantastic to follow a coastal walk!

Other Activities:

- Bamburgh Golf Club: this golf course offers one of the most scenic rounds you’ll ever play. Think dramatic coastal views.

- Alnwick: has lots to explore. Visit Alnwick Castle, explore Alnwick Gardens, or Barter Books (one of the UK’s most beloved bookshops!).

-Ad Gefrin: a whiskey distillery in Wooler with a fantastic museum and restaurant.

-Cragside: Worth the drive. Cragside is a historic National Trust mansion nestled in Northumberland National Park. This pioneering home was the first house to ever have electricity and is filled with Victorian gadgets for "modern" living. With man-made lakes, waterfalls, and beautiful gardens.

Keep it in the family:

- Pilgrims Coffee: The best cafe in Northumberland and also conveniently placed on Holy Island. Andrew and Vicky roast their coffee and bake all the delicious treats on the island.

- Pilgrims Gelateria: Free from everything but flavour! Charlotte's Ice cream is made with oat milk. One for the vegans!
